Marina was born in Atlantis and raised by Aquaman and Mera. However, they were both assassinated by Black Manta during Darkseid's invasion. She was seven years old and she escaped from Atlantis. She found a colony of surviving Atlanteans and she was raised by a man named Cal Durham. When she was eighteen she joined the fight against Darkseid and she discovered the Justice League.

She joined the Justice League and formed a close friendship with Green Lantern and Red Hood.

- Around the time Marina was conceived, Aquaman's brother, Orm, raped Mera, so it is possible that Marina is truly Orm's daughter, and not Orin's.
