Mystique was raped by Mephisto's son, Azazel. She was impregnated and she gave birth to a baby boy. She was forced to abandon him, despite wanting to be his mother. She thought he had been killed, so she moved to America and made a new life for herself as Alice Raven. She began a relationship with a girl named Renee Montoya.
X-Men[]
When Mystique learned of the X-Men she created an alias for herself and fake powers. She became the mermaid mutant Ariel.

Raven as Ariel
Renee was on a trip with her partners, which gave Raven the opportunity. She worked with the X-Men for quite some time until being revealed by Professor X. She reconciled with her son and left the X-Men.
S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
Raven was approached by S.H.I.E.L.D. and they offered her a spot in their ranks. She agreed but she was announced deceased, making Renee depressed.
Fantastic Four[]
Raven was given the mission to infiltrate the Fantastic Four posing as the Invisible Woman. Sue was held unconscious by S.H.I.E.L.D. They suspected the FF were going to turn evil, due to a hint given to them by Dr. Doom. After spending a month with them, Raven realized the FF were good guys.
Raven as Invisible Woman
She came clean and she and the others approached S.H.I.E.L.D. Sue was set free, Raven quit, and Nick Fury was fired and replaced with Amanda Waller.
Return to Renee[]
Raven returned to Renee, who thought she was dead. She legally changed her name to Alice Raven.
