Ben Grimm is the Green Lantern of Earth. He was friends with Hal Jordan and Reed Richards in college, but when they graduated he joined the Air Force.
The Dying Alien[]
During his first test flight, an alien ship crashed into his and they both barely survived. Ben found the dying alien. He told him his name was Abin Sur and he was a Green Lantern. His ring floated off and went onto Ben's finger. It took him to a planet called Oa, where he was informed that he was now the Green Lantern of Sector 2814.
