Eddie was selected by Thanos to compete in Winner Take All. After he defeats Thanos, the symbiote manipulates Eddie into wishing Spider-Man never abandoned it.
In the new world, Spider-Man was taken over and he transformed into Venom. Eddie became the editor of the Daily Bugle and he ran trash about Venom, which got him to attack Eddie and kill him.
